FYS LEARNING OUTCOMES- Gain a better understanding of yourself, through reading, writing reflective journals, working with peers, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.
- Determine your academic and personal goals.
- Appreciate the diverse perspectives of your peers.
- Learn specific skills (academic, social, emotional, and physical) and use them in this and other courses.
- Communicate effectively in academic situations (in class, small group, and presentation, as well as with faculty and staff), and understand the effects of culture, gender, and status on all communication.
- Develop critical thinking, reading and writing skills (gaining experience through weekly journals, summaries, and formal writing projects).
- Relate the issues raised in the Common Reading book and the reader to your life as a new college student.
- Explore and use Gallaudet's extensive resources and support services.
- Explore majors and careers, and develop an academic plan based on your goals.
- Appreciate the purposes and value of a liberal arts education, and of Gallaudet's general studies program.
